Thanks to all for your usual excellent suggestions. I for sure need to tone down the brightness of the rock face. But I am sorely disappointed that my fellow photographers do not appreciate a jet contrail shooting out of the top of a giant rock. You know, there could be a story behind this. Just imagine the contrail is an alien space ship taking off, and the people are a top secret government team monitoring the activities of aliens from outer space. After all, it is New Mexico. |

I like the poses and interaction between the eagles. I agree with Larry that the birds are over-sharpened and I might try decreasing the contrast a bit. I had a chance to try out that 800 mm lens. Amazing! I never imagined being able to hand hold an 800. |

Our most beautiful songbird? Could be! Good idea to flip the photo, but the crop is too close IMO. My suggestion for crop is in the attached image. Also, I randomly added some bright areas on the bird so it wouldn't look so flat. That looks natural because there is wonderful dappled light on the foliage. And I lowered highlights on the foliage. |

A really nice action shot. No doubt about who is the aggressor here. The birds are great, but I'm not too fond of the background. IMO the dark bank needs to be blurred more, and the bright area darkened just a little. |

I think woodpeckers adapted to live in cacti is a wonderful nature story. The beautiful cactus flowers and the female getting ready to take flight, and the approaching male in the background make this a very interesting image to me. The only thing that could be better is a slightly sharper focus on the male bird in the background. Even if you could have gotten perfect focus, that would look fake to me. So in processing I would try selecting the out of focus bird as an object and sharpen a little without getting too grainy. Would a judge object to this, or even be able to tell? |

Hey Susan, I like the photo as-is. What catches my eye is the soft slightly textured look. And the poses of the ducks. I also like leaving plenty of room around the birds showing the water, reflections and vegetation. An artsy and very nice image. Well done IMO. |
