Glad to share. I checked the tables and, for my age and average health, I've got about about ten years left (if I don't get hit by a runaway garbage truck or something). Trying to squeeze in a few more thrills! If you'd like, take a look at my photos from the trip posted here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/124612053@N08/albums/72177720314717162 |

No, I packed a platypod but didn't use it. This particular trip was aimed at hard-core birders, mostly in natural habitat (not feeders) where looks at the birds are distant and fleeting, so there was usually no time to use a tripod or even a monopod. Just carrying the Z8 with the 400 + 1.4 wore me out (I'm old!). |

Well, you could have put a hula girl next to the fern. But that wouldn't qualify for this group. It's a beautiful intimate landscape - a really good eye to catch that. Processed just right to darken the lava and bring out the contrast in the green ferns. Square crop is just right. Excellent!! |

A really nice portrait, but I think it needs less - or more. You have a lot of pixels to work with, so I would try a crop showing just the head (with those magnificent eyes). Or crop less to show more of the environment. I'm attaching a couple of examples. |

A nice colorful shot. This may sound picky but I'd like to see the eye on the male bird. Might be my cataracts but I don't see it. Maybe try using a brush to lighten up the bird's head a little. |

Wonderful the way the late afternoon/morning light shows the feather detail on the birds and gives me a warm feeling. Identical bird poses with curved necks, cropped right to give room for the birds top and bottom and a little extra room where the birds are facing. By george, you've done it again! |

Wow, nice image. I like the line leading from the corner all the way to the boulder on the right side. It leads the viewer's eye up to what I consider the real star of the show. Not the penguins, but the dramatic, wonderfully hazy cliffs in the background. Much drama here! |

Looks good. A nice and beautiful portrait that includes some of the bird's environment. I might have included even more, to give the bird a little more space. Something like this. |
