To add insult to injury, Abe Lincoln never said "It is what it is". |

Very nice shot! Sharp eye with eyelight, good feather detail. The wing being a little out of focus looks OK to me - gives a feeling of depth to the image. I think you're messin' with us - you are better than you claim to be!

The black and white looks OK but the color is best IMO. After all, those shades of red and yellow are an important part of the Badlands story. |

I did almost what you did but removed the post because it wasn't that much better. Personally I don't mind pushing the boundaries of "natural" and like the revised image a lot, but want to be careful to stay within this group which is a lot of "nature" and not too much "plus". |

Thanks. I'm referring to the horizontal layers in the red area near the top of the image. As you probably know, those are layers of sediment deposited when the area was covered in a shallow sea. To show what I mean I downloaded the image and used the cropping tool in Lightroom to make them look more horizontal. |

Thanks for being kind about that slow shutter speed. While waiting for the whale to surface my camera automatically shut down and reset to my usual "user 3" which is 1/400. Oh well. I'm just glad to get a shot of something very special under less than ideal conditions. |

You surely succeeded in getting the depth of field. I'm wondering if the slanting layers in the landscape are natural. I would have tried making them horizontal in the image. I like the color in the image, but thinking this would make a good very contrasty black-and-white to better convey the starkness of the landscape. |

I think your processing is good on this one. It's great to include the water splash, otherwise you don't have much of a story. To me the problem with the image is that the bird is too far away from the splash. But as Abraham Lincoln once said "It is what it is." I would try cropping out the dark band at the top. This would increase the impression that this bird was moving really fast and the splash/bird distance is natural. |

You captured a great pose and the image tells a story. I like the way you brightened it up with a beautiful blue sky. All good in my opinion. |

Nice pose and I love the red clover in the foreground. While all that blue in the background might be accurate and natural (after all it's the Blue Ridge) it really distracted me. Maybe desaturate that a bit. |

Beautiful shot. I think you got the WB right. Everything else looks good to me, except I might increasing the saturation on the cat a bit, bring out the yellow and increase impact of the image. |
