Gee Richard, as Larry pointed out your bird is facing the wrong way to be a Dusky-capped Flycatcher. They always face to the right. Except in the Northern Hemisphere in which case they do face to the left. Therefore I must conclude that if my bird was in the Northern Hemisphere it could well be a Great-crested Flycatcher. Being an experienced birder, you should know this! |

Hi Bud, my eye immediately went to the lime green on the face of the bird. Along with the yellow eyes, that's very beautiful. Otherwise, it appears that the shadows might have been lightened a little too much. And I think the bird needs more space in the image, as in Cindy's crop. I once liked to "fill the frame" but now I like a lot more space in photos like this. Don't know why, probably old age. |

Hi Richard, definitely crawfish or "mudbugs" in this neck of the woods. Great shot and very interesting showing the feeding action. I'm probably wrong as usual, but in processing I would have masked the bird and lightened it a bit, raising the white and maybe even adding some vibrance to make it stand out better and brightening the overall photo a bit. Also, I like the original shot without the crop - leaving all that space in front of the bird. You took good advantage of an excellent photo opportunity. I'll bet your other shots are great too! |

Hey Susan, I think you did a great job all the way around on this one. What an interesting pose! And great feather detail, except maybe on the bird's head where it might be a bit overexposed. That doesn't detract from the overall image IMO. Cropped just right and background lightened just right. |

Darn, I should have known you would notice. I processed the original so used another image from the same series of shots, just to give an idea of how much processing I did. Not that I'm proud of that. Anyway, a fella can't get away with anything in this group! ;) |

I meant to suggest in your crop to leave more room on the right side of the image. |

Hi David, really nice bird and reflection. I agree with sharpening the bird, but would have left the background as-is. I don't think the softening of the background helped the image any, and it looks darker which doesn't help either. Your shutter speed might have been a little low which could be the cause of the softness of focus on the bird. Thanks. |

Hi Larry, this is one thing that worries me while kayaking in the swamp. Wouldn't want to run over a big one hidden like that. I think this is a great shot showing the critter in its natural environment, and maybe using some camouflage. Filled the frame and looks sharp to me. I like! |

Hi Cindy, I think this is a nice image showing natural behavior of the bird, as well as the natural environment with that very interesting looking fruit. I like the processing job you did to clean up and sharpen, particularly the sky with those subtle pink gradations. Crop is good IMO but I would have left more space on the left side of the image. Would look better balanced that way, and there is plenty of room to do it. Thanks! |
