Thanks to all for the kind comments. I'll be working on the background quite a bit. Galapagos is a nature photographer's dream. Images everywhere you look. It's hard to go wrong there. |

This was a Road Scholar (Elderhostel - old farts) group with only one other serious photographer on board. She got some good shots with her Nikon P1000 bridge camera, but not this same one. At times I envied her having only one camera/lens, but I'm thrilled with some of the shots I got on the trip. It was a chore for my 76 year old butt to carry around the Z6 and Z7 with three lenses, on and off the Zodiac with wet landings on the beaches. I took a 20mm, 70-200 zoom and 400mm lenses. I thought the 70-200 would be the workhorse, but ended using the 400mm primarily, with the 20mm for landscape. |

Wow, you might not have the most descriptive title, but the image is great - and you have so many options for processing with all the colors and shapes, all so very elegant and beautiful. I think you did the colors right. That patch of sky in the corner might could be improved. In Lightroom I would mask out the sky and work on highlights, contrast, saturation - whatever works to coax out a little more interest. Or you could completely crop it out. Richard's crop looks good, but you have so many other options with this image. |

Beautiful image. Eye very sharp. Colors good, especially the gradation of colors on the bird's body. It might have been better to shoot from a slightly lower level (eye level) but you would have picked up more clutter in the background. The background is OK, but I wonder if masking it, then lowering the sharpness would work. In Lightroom I lower the sharpness and noise sliders to the max, then also lower the texture slider if more blurriness is needed. |

Great shot. I really like the way the light falls on the bird's head, highlighting the colors, especially the beak. Nice choice of backlighting. Nice action with the fish in beak and the water dripping back down - that's very nice. Good pose and sharpness. All good! |

Thanks for describing your technique. Very helpful. I'm not sure the Z cameras have anything like the L button. Has toggle of course. Great shot, as usual. Obviously a very bright day but you captured the detail in the highlights and shadows. |

A really interesting image. Like the others, it took a moment for it to "click" because one doesn't usually see a bird with its head upside down! Wish the gecko had been in focus, but anyway I love the image. Well done! |

Hi Susan, I think you have a lovely image with lots of action. One of our most interesting looking and beautiful birds. Well framed, although I wouldn't mind a little closer crop. The birds could be a little sharper. Higher shutter speed and/or f stop might have helped, but then you have to think about higher ISO. I'm sure any of these new processing programs are good for sharpening and noise reduction. I use Lightroom and Luminar 4 a lot, because I seldom have a tripod to get ultimate sharpness when the good shots appear. So I just let 'er rip and fix it later. Don't do this. Bad advice! |
