Just thought of one more thing. I would try this image in black and white. |

Thanks to all for the kind comments. As usual, I learn a lot from these critiques. |

Hey Bud. I like flipping the image, and increasing fine detail contrast to better show the feathers. The two other birds in the image present problems, in my amateur opinion. It looks as if the pelican is about to land on one of the other bird's head. And then I wonder where it's going to land. If you could remove BOTH birds, that might help. Thanks for submitting a challenging compositional dilemma. |

Hi David. I think you need those rocks to show more of the surrounding environment, and to provide a frame and leading lines to the wave, which is the subject. I like a little more of rock and foam in the foreground to further show context. See the attached image. |

Hi Richard, I think the original image does a fine job of showing this interesting little bird in its environment. The suggested changes made a little improvement. Good job! |

Hey Larry! I'm enjoying Moose's book - his autobiographical style makes it a lot more readable than other photo books. It's hard for me to imagine having access to all that Nikon gear! I love this photo. The background is perfect with its shades of blue. I'm learning that maybe the most important thing in wildlife photography is patience. Even more important than camouflage. I vote for leaving the shells to show part of the birds environment. |

Hi Jason. That's a big buck and you got a good "shot". One of the great things about shooting with a camera is that you don't have to drag him out of the woods and clean him. He's in good focus and you included some of his environment which makes the photo more interesting. As the others stated, the single antler makes the image unique. I agree that a wider aperture would have made him stand out a little more. Thanks for sharing this one. |
