I'll take you up on that offer next time I'm in the area. You are very fortunate to live in a nature photographer's paradise! |

This was processed from a rather poor original, but I refuse to use that as an excuse. I certainly over-sharpened. You are correct that I originally was going with full silhouette, but then decided I liked a little detail in the tree trunk. Go figure! As for those small critters in RMNP, I could paper my living room with prints of golden-mantled ground squirrels. They are beautiful and will give you a great pose - I can't stop shooting them. |

Hi David, it's a beautiful image with great composition. I would never have noticed the details about the light source that Larry did. But the sky did look a little too perfect to me, once you mentioned that it had been replaced. I've done some sky replacement in Luminar 4 and to me it's a dilemma as whether or not to reveal it. I almost always do, and certainly do when it's required. But if I were a casual viewer of your image I would have been better off not to have known. |

Hi Bud, I think you got a good image considering you were riding in a moving car. I like the suggestions made by others, but think this would make a great black and white image. You've got angles, peaks, shadows, bright areas, various textures and a kind of wispy cloudy sky that might look pretty cool in black and white. |

Hey Richard, a great image of one of our most interesting birds. That's a terrific pose! Seems to me the 10x16 frame puts the bird a little too low in the image. Maybe the 8x10 would work a little better. You might get a little more feather detail by using the adjustment brush to selectively sharpen and add clarity. Also enhance the iris a bit to show more eye reflections. |

Hi Larry, in your description you had me with "grab a quick shot". That's more my style, sorry to say. But actually you were quite patient and were able to get remarkably close. Great shot, of course. Your original shot probably has more feather detail but if not I wonder if applying a little selective sharpening and clarity on the bird would be a good idea. |

Jason, you really know how to have fun. Great shot and wonderful subject! I would try cropping a little more of the sky and a little less of the foreground to move the elephants to the upper third of the frame. Then bring down the highlights of the sky to show those clouds on the horizon. I'm attaching an image (modified in Lightroom) to illustrate what I am talking about. Not trying to copyright your image - that's automatically added. |

Hi Todd, thanks for posting this nice image. I agree with Larry about the sunspot. You could try using the adjustment brush to adjust highlights, exposure and/or white level on the spot. I like the mood but, overall, the image seems a little too dark, so I would try, using the adjustment brush again, selectively increasing the exposure especially in that band of trees above the pool. |

Thank you so much for those keen observations. I'll use them to improve the image. And you are correct - I seldom miss an opportunity to over process. |
