Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. For once I did something right by going to the front of the bus and convincing the driver to crack open the door so I could poke my lens out. Sitting on the bus entrance steps put me at eye level, which really added to the intimacy of the shot. |

Masterful technique and awesome results! You are really doing something when you get eye-level with a gator. The low angle provides a powerful view of that gator's mouth with its fearsome teeth. Maximum visual impact. |

I get an adrenaline rush just looking at this picture. A perfect capture of the explosive burst of speed from this huge animal. The eye level puts me right there, feeling the splash of the water and experiencing hippo breath. I hesitate to make any suggestions on this one, since it has deservedly won some honors. Maybe I would try to reduce the contrast of the image by selectively reducing the highlights and lightening the shadows. A powerful photo. |

Well, birds do it, bees do it, and what do you know, lions do it too! The facial expressions you captured really make the photo, in my opinion. The almost eye level view really makes me feel as if I am there. I don't think you gained anything by rotating the image, in fact the original is better. Excellent photo. |

My, my, my I love this picture! Sharp and clear with lots of feather detail and color. It helps that I like the common nighthawk. They are amazingly agile in flight, graceful as they feed on moths and other insects in the late evening or early morning. They make a high nasal "peent" as they fly. I might have cropped the image a little wider because the leaves on the ground surrounding the birds are also beautiful. And you were fortunate to get in close to avoid much cropping, so the high ISO worked out OK. I get weary of ordinary bird shots taken from below - of course that's usually the only kind of shot you get with perching birds. The eye-level intimacy in this shot is amazing. This is a wonderful shot of awesome birds! |

A lovely and tranquil landscape. Makes me want to go back to Yellowstone. The colorful grass catches my eye and I wonder what is on the other side of the river bend! I think the color enhancement of the yellow grass adds a lot to the image. I think I might have tried including more of the grass and reddish vegetation in the foreground, which would move the skyline up in the image. Really nice! |
