Story telling with one image is the biggest challenges we will face with wildlife photography. Much easier with street photography or travel photography and even landscapes. I don't know just how far the Blackbird was from the Woodpecker but from your description of there being 4 big cacti in the image, you may not have been able to get the blackbird in focus at all. The woodpecker is sharp and is the main subject but, the blackbird is where my eye wants to go. I agree subject for discussion. |

One of the tough things about photographing wildlife is where they live. There can be a lot of distracting things in their habitat. I agree with other folks, warm up the image some contrast a little brightness and crop in tighter. I love the ducks. I would have taken this shot as well.

Michael, sorry I am late to the party this month. I think everything has been said that needs to be said about the image. I would pay aa guide to get this shot. This shot would be good any time of the day, I think. I don't know the location, but an arching Milkyway shot over the rock would be really good. |
