Thanks Jack. I do not visit this rookery for award winning images because it is so busy. I do visit Florida often just to photograph the wildlife. In face I will be there next month leading a small group of photographers from the Carolina Nature Photographers Association. We will visit Merritt Island, Orlando Wetlands and a few other areas near Titusville. |

I agree with you on the water's edge. If we had been talking about the horizon, I would have agreed about leveling it. |

Beautiful Bird Maria. We get a few Golden Plover here on the
southeast coast of the US but very few. I like the composition and agree with Lisa about the background. |

I have not delved into composite work yet. This really tells the story of the Eagle for sure. The story is complete thanks to the Eagle's success. The color change of the water worked well too, |

Thanks Xiao. I try to follow the rules from PAS about not removing things from the image but yes, I could have removed the branches from the top of the picture and that would have made the background a lot cleaner. |

Thanks, Lisa, for your comments. Spring comes a little earlier hear in SC than in CT. This shot was taken on the 21st of March at 5PM. Things had greened up nice and the evening sun along with help from LR added the warm feel. The egrets had just started nest building. This is not my favorite spot because getting a nice clean background is almost out of the question. But there are hundreds of Herons, Ibis and Egrets to play with. |

Love the Osprey and the fish! With the fish head gone it sure tells the story. I too am not a fan of the vignetting. |

Good capture of the interaction between these 2 Sandwich Terns. Really good detail on the birds. Would have liked to see the reflections but that Skimmer sure got in your way. Nice work on this image. |

Thanks for your comments, Marilyn. Your crop is fine, I suppose it comes down to a personal choice. Both look ok for me. I am not a big fan of busy backgrounds on photos of birds but that is the way it is sometimes if you want pictures the animals so you do the best you can. |

Hi Xiao. Really good image of this bird. I like the framing and composition. The subject is nice and sharp, and you captured eye glint as well. What sets it apart for me from a standard portrait is the gesture of the bird's head turned to the side. Good Work. |

Thanks, Maria, for your comments. This area always holds a lot of birds but does not have much in the way of a good background environment. I was trying to cover up some ugly brush with a warmer feel. I did not think about making the image look more like spring. I took this in late spring which is more like summer here in South Carolina. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Susan I am a little late to the party so not a lot I can add that has not been covered already. I too like Michael's crop showing the reflections. One of the hardest things we have to do is be our own critic. I have recently been posing as a judge and grading my own images. Trying to be as honest as I can and deducting points for everything, I see bad about all my prefect photos. Most times it brings me to my knees or at least back to reality. |

Yes, I would have liked more of the image but was not happy with the ugly tree. Thank you for the comment and yes Red and Green always do well to gather.

Thanks Michael. I was just not happy with the surroundings so this time I cropped close to the bird. Like you if that tree had not been there, I would have used more if the image. |

This is a cool shot, Bud. Nice composition with room for the Bufflehead to fly into and you still captured enough of the trail of flying water to tell the story of the takeoff. The work on the eye of the duck really helped. A small thing but it sure makes a difference for the viewer or the judge. Very nice image sir. |

Wow, waiting on these guys to do something other than jump up and down could take a while. This is about all they do until those wings get strong enough to actually fly. The image is sharp and throughout, and I like the composition of the two staring at each other. That really give some extra punch to the photo. Good work, you can't go wrong with baby pictures even if they do have feathers. |

Cindy, every good image has to have a good story. If the story is good enough it will overpower some of the things, we would like to have done better. This is a marvelous imaged. I think you have done really well in capturing the Pinguins on their trek up the slope. As Larry said white snow is tough to work with. I think getting all the Pinguins posed prefect would have e been near imposable. I think this one you will remember for a long time, |

You just can't go wrong with a Great Blue Heron and when you add a beak full of Fiddler Crab you have a great story. The crop is fine. I know what it is an what the bird is doing. More GBH would not help tell the story any better. Maybe as Larry said the background could be changed a little to get more separation in the colors. Fine image indeed. |

Thanks, Larry, for the comment. I try to abide by the PSA rules but will break them when there is no other choice. I will be using this as new addition to my gift card collection and will break the rules for that. I will look at adding more of the tree on the right but will also have to add some more to the left to make sure the bird has room to fly to the left.

Thanks Bud. I considered doing that, but you know the PAS rules about not removing things like this. If I was ever to enter this in a contest that did not have those rules, I would remove it and maybe a couple of other items. |
