Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
46 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Sylvia. I will admit that the first thing I usually do to my images is to crop. On this shot it really was not a mandatory first step, although a little crop would not have hurt the image. I really like the spring green color of the Spartina Grass of the salt marsh. Sep 25th
46 Sep 23 Reply Thank you, Marilyn, for your comment. I Thought about cropping a little, but it is so seldom that I make a photo that does not demand correction I could not bring myself to do a crop. Sep 25th
46 Sep 23 Comment Pelicans are so much fun to photograph. They can be comical at times. I like this shot. Nice action displayed by the pelican, and I think you done a good job with the water. In the original image the water grabs too much attention from the bird. By fixing that you have made the bird jump to the front of the image. Now it's all about the bird and fish. Really nice. 46 Sep 23 Comment Hi Sylvia. Springtime at the Magnolia Swamp is a real treat. I have photographed there often. This is a nice family shot of these guys. Whit birds are so easy to overexpose and lose detail, but I think this is acceptable. Give it a shot, you may be able to recover a little detail. Sep 13th
46 Sep 23 Comment Great find Jack and even better photo. I have photographed twins but never triplets. The Owlets are sharp, and the eyes steal the show. Catching these guys out in the open is wonderful. You are very fortunate not to have a bunch of limbs in your way. Very Nice. Sep 13th
46 Sep 23 Comment Wow, I have photographed a lot of Ospreys but never saw this action! Great timing and impressive that you had your camera set and ready to go. Sep 13th
46 Sep 23 Reply Thanks, Maria, for your comments. Sometimes the birds cooperate and help with the composition.. Sep 13th
46 Sep 23 Reply Thanks, Tom for the comments. I guess I was thinking about keeping the bird close to the 1/3 intersecting lines. Also, I always want to leave a little room in front of and animal, so it has somewhere to go. In this case someplace to land. You are correct I could have cropped just a little tighter. Sep 13th
46 Sep 23 Comment Very Good Lisa. White on white is not all that easy. Good detail in the feathers. Really nice separation between the Egret and sky. Sep 13th

67 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Bud. I am thinking about just that.

67 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Michael. I could have done that. I thought about different ways to present the image and may do something like the 1+1 at some point. I like what you done because it would bring in the environment a lot more. I presented this image in a contest with the theme of flight. Last night in fact. Anyway, I needed the photo to be all about the Bee in Flight. It worked; My Honeybee won first place. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Reply Thank you, Cindy, for the comments. I am thrilled that I inspired someone with my work. You could be the first person ever. I needed the wings blurred to show some motion. I entered into a contest with the theme of flight last night, so I needed those wings moving. My bee was a winner and took home a first-place ribbon. The judge made some of the comments that you guys are making, Bee Sharp with the wings blurred to show the motion, soft bokeh and the good DOF. You guys could have been the judge. Thanks Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Larry. I entered this last night in a local contest with the theme of flight. I knew there would birds and planes, so I chose a bee. I was a winning bee, 1st place in the expert level, and I had taken out the small piece of vegetation at the bottom that you. noticed. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Reply Thanks David, for the comments. Everything seemed to line up in my favor that day. The was a large field of these flowers and there were hundreds of them. I have tried to completely stop the motion and it very seldom works for me. I don't mind a little wing motion, like you said it shows motion. My main thing was the Bee in flight. I had a competition coming up with the theme of flight. I felt sure there would be a lot of bird and airplane photography but not many bees. There was only one and that was me. I won 1st place in the expert level. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Comment Good move David with the black and white. This photo looks like it was designed for B&W. I do like bringing some light onto the foreground. That at adds some detail there without overpowering the sunlight mountains. Maybe not as much as Cindy did. Maybe just a little darker to keep that layering effect. Now I am really liking what Cindy did with the sky. Replacing that cloud really balances the scene. Great Landscape David. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Comment Nice capture Bud. I have the same thing going on at my feeders but with a Coopers Hawk. Like what you have done with the background. You accomplished you goal of making the Hawk Stand out in the photo. I very seldom shoot birds on my feeders but when a Raptor lands there you have no choice but to grab a picture. I am torn about removing the rain drops. I understand the reason for removing but I still kind of like them. I think maybe you lost the streaking effect when you darkened the background. A really good backyard capture and story. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Comment What a fantastic looking animal. I agree with everyone else those eyes and the clean white and black coat it is waring really jumps off the screen at you. That face and the eyes are tack sharp. With contrasting black and white it is hard to see anything else on the page. I enjoy seeing the dappled sunlight in the forest until I try and make a picture of it. That's when my love affair with it starts to wane really fast. Sence this is not a competition I would agree with Larry. You have done about as much as you can with the crop, now grab the clone tool and move some if those leaves around. Beautiful Animal Cindy, good work. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Comment Susan what a beautiful bird. Love the Blue=red bird and the soft, green and clean background. Yep, it rains there a lot as I remember. You have a beautiful image but there are a couple of easy fixes it you wanted to. As I said I love the Blue Creeper, but I am not fond of that stick stabbing it on its left side, nor do I know what that is hanging from the branch on the right side of the bird. I find that a little distracting. I would remove them in PS. Really easy with the new remove tool. I took the liberty to make the changes I spoke of and tried some cloning on the branch to get rid of the white strip on the top of the limb. You bird and background are really good. Great Bokeh and the bird is sharp. I don't find the top of the bird's head to be distracting at all, it looks natural to me. Sep 13th
67 Sep 23 Comment A real tough shot Michael. I have never been able to get that shot very well. I have tried and used the same tactic as you but can't get one that's to my satisfaction. I agree the color is really good and the face of the bird is pretty sharp. I tend to always be distracted by all the branches in this kind of environment but without removing all the branches I just have to accept that this is where the guy lives. Sep 12th
67 Sep 23 Comment Another great image Larry. I think your set-up was really good. Knowing your light and even the wind direction when shooting flying birds is critical to making a good photograph. I like everything about this photo except the light line that separates the water from the background foliage. I do understand that it is part of the scene and is not allowed in PSA competitions. I normally don't like removing elements of the environment but sometimes I will break my own rules. Removing this as in times past would have been a challenge to remove and have it look natural but not anymore. I took the liberty of removing the line in PS using the new Remove tool. It does create an issue that the water line is now difficult to see but that is not the story of the image so not an issue for me. See what you think. Sep 10th
