67 Apr 23 Comment Wow, David you had some adverse conditions to work with on this photo. You pointed out the sky did nothing good for you. The leading lines really stand out and I really like them, but I just don't see them leading up to the volcano. I am assuming the volcano is the cone shaped mountain on the right corner in the photo. The dust or smoke in the air is not helping. I think you have done just about as good as you could with the image. I picked out several locations in the photo that I think would be interesting if you were so inclined to break up the image. The right 1/3 of the photo I find interesting of just the volcano and foreground. The left also with the rock outcroppings has some interesting lines and colors. I worked with just the side to show you what I think would work. Apr 15th
67 Apr 23 Comment Hey Bud, I too like the body part separation and the position of the Crane. The eye and head area are nice and sharp and that is the most important part of course. The body is maybe a little soft but if you are not entering this is a competition it would not be an issue at all. The DOF is very shallow and that may be contributing to the softness. It looks like you may have reached out a little to get this shot so maybe a little more DOF would have been in order. Just a guess on my part. Great image. Apr 15th
67 Apr 23 Comment Another great action shot. I too like the feet and bill in the water at the same time. As most of us know it is not easy to capture good detail on white birds. You have good detail everywhere on this bird, good work. Apr 15th
67 Apr 23 Comment Wonderful, I would call this a one image story essay. That is not easy to capture that much information with one camera click. Of course, I don't see many of these guys here in South Carolina, Only one I know of that mush have gotten blown here by a storm or whatever. I have seen them in Costa Rica but never witnessed that behavior before. I agree with Larry, you have scored a bunch of points with capturing that action story. The colors are good, and you have good details where it is needed, the face and eye. Maybe some movement on the Gecko would have added something extra but I would be more than happy with this shot. 67 Apr 23 Reply Black Point Wildlife is a 7-mile loop that takes you by canals, large pools of shallow waters and lots of Mangrove Forest. There are others like West Gator Road and Bio-lab drive, but Black Point is by far the best. I have photographed everything from Bobcats, Pigs, Dear and all kinds of small animals. The winter months of Jan. and
February are the best months when the northern birds and ducks have arrived. I have seen thousands of several species of ducks sometimes. My favorite place on the east coast to go to. I used to live in the area and used to fish all of those waters, so know my way around just a little.

67 Apr 23 Comment Love the action and the story quality of your image. Often a good story is the hardest part of wildlife photography but can be the most rewarding and is the first thing that judges look for. You got that part down, I too would suggest that you follow the suggestions of Larry and they others. PSA is aways a good place to look for learning, but you can also go the old standby "utube". 67 Apr 23 Comment This is one of those WOW images. I think everything works so well. The colors are close on both animals but there is more than enough separation caused by the texture of these guy. There is an animal comedy contest out there that I think this might do well in. I wish I had taken it. Really, really cool image Michael. Apr 15th
67 Apr 23 Reply Thanks Larry. I cheated. My photo blind was Toyota Rav 4. Driving along the Black Point Drive on Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge you can get lucky once in a while. I watched this guy a long time from several hundred yards away. I was parked so movement was not an issue and he just kept getting closer and closer. I have watched them before when they seem to circle the edges a body of water looking for fish. So, I just waited for him to come around to my side of the pool and got this shot. Sometimes, more often than not patience is needed to get the shot. Apr 9th
