67 Dec 22 Reply Thanks David. I am finding a swamp can be a lot of different things to folks. Like most folks my first impression of a swamp was not good but the more I study the more beautiful they become to me.

67 Dec 22 Reply Thanks, Cyndy, for the comments. I have never been in that forest, so I don't know how deep it goes but you are correct it looks like it would be easy to get lost. I made the changes to darken the front trees and I do like it better. Dec 15th
67 Dec 22 Reply Thanks for the comments. I am working on an article about how most swamps are not really what most folks think they are. Dark dangerous, spooky and full of man-eating animals and places to avoid. Most swamps in the south are what I call live water estuaries. I was just trying to bring out some of the colors and put some life into the image. You made my day with your comments. I have never explored this area on the water, so I don't really know how much of it there is. I do see folks fishing from the kayaks and canoes, and they will go out of sight into the woods. I think it is rather large. Dec 11th
67 Dec 22 Comment Great image Bud. I agree with Larry about removing the black spot. Is that the shadow of the Vulture? Larry is correct about adding some area in front of the vulture, it would be a big improvement for the photo. Yes, it would be a no-no with PSA but to hang on the wall it would not be a problem. I assume you had watched this chase taking place before with other cats, so you deserve credit for waiting around for the next Lion attack on the Vulture. Wonderful capture. Dec 11th
67 Dec 22 Reply Thanks Michael. Yes, the reflections are what this image is all about. That clump of grass you refer to is a reflection of leaves growing from the bottom of the Cypress Tree. I see what you are referring to about bottom possibly being cropped a little. As you can see in the original the bottom of the image is brighter than the rest of the image and my effort was to tone it down so that your eye was directed to the reflections of the orange colors of the sky, but I wanted to keep as much of the tree buttress reflection as possible. Both ways would work. Just a matter of personal choice. Dec 9th
67 Dec 22 Reply Thanks Frank. Of course, the reflection is what this image was all about. The view of the upper reaches of the trees was not a very pretty site at all. Most of the fall orange leaves of the cypress trees had fallen and not much up there to see. I may give your suggestion a try. Toning down the trees a bit
could work.

67 Dec 22 Comment Abstract is correct David. I like the lines leading you from left to right through the image. The softer look is nice, but I don't think a sharper image would be bad either. If you like the softer look that's the way to go. I can see darkening some of the lines maybe. I know nothing about this place, so I was wondering if there is an exit place with a light source to help give the viewer somewhere to go. Just wondering about the possibilities. Like I said, I have never been there. I do like the colors; I can see someone paying a lot of money for this just because the colors matched their decor. Dec 8th
67 Dec 22 Comment Larry, these guys must be in your neighborhood, so I guess you are on a first name basis with them. They would get a lot of attention from me if I lived close. This is a really good action capture with a compelling story. Could be just a little squeamish for some folks but that is the world of wildlife. The Owl is nice a sharp with good detail in the feathers and you sure can see that eye. If you could just train it to pose in a nice area with a clean background. That is the way of a wildlife photographer, can't shoot these guys in the studio. Great image!

67 Dec 22 Comment Cool looking Butterfly, I don't believe I have ever seen one like that. We have Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden in the community where I live, and it gets a lot of traffic from my photography friends and flower lovers. The obstacle I always contend with is haveing enough depth of field to make sure that the complete butterfly is in focus and of course just as you mentioned finding one intact with a good background. I kind of like the background on this photo. I don't find anything distracting there. I also like the flower stems leading you to the flower and butterfly. The only thing I would have done differently is try and used more depth of field, F11 or whatever it would take to bring more sharpness to the flower and the rear antenna of the butterfly. With that big of a lens, it can be a challenge. Overall, I like the image, I really like the softness of the background a lot. Dec 8th
67 Dec 22 Comment Frank, I really like this image. I will agree with Michael about the cropping. I understand where you were going with the photo but to me the picture is the whole thing. I like the original story the best. I have never been to Africa, so these kinds of images are very impressive to me. I cropped to a panorama and done a lot of dogging and burning with the brush in light room. I wanted to add some contrast and depth of field by darkening and lighting some of the rocks and dirt banks to give the elements some separation. Hope you don't mind. You mentioned that it looked plastic. I think the main problem was that everything was in the same tonal range. any way I love the image, only wish I had taken it. Dec 8th
67 Dec 22 Comment Wow, Michael, what a challenging photo. I am not sure I would have tried this. You are to be congratulated for the effort for sure. I can definitely see the red on the vulture's head and good outline of the bird. I am assuming that the vulture is the subject but those rain drops grab a lot of my attention. It looks like when you done work on the background you ended up with some haloing around the wings. Like I said you are to be commended for taking the shot, I would have been looking for shelter and a dry spot. Dec 8th
