Well, I learned some things from Larry's comments. When I first looked at the image things just didn't look right. It's good to be reminded about the light often because, while we know about it, sometimes my old brain just forgets. I don't know if you could get back to this place, but I see a beautiful image in there. Better light and some nice clouds and you have a wall hanger for sure. |

I like this image, Larry. I see you used a filter to reduce the glare, good move of course but did you use any exposure compensation as well. I don't shoot many things in the snow. but I know it can be a chore to keep from blowing out the white snow. Like on white birds. I don't see a lot of that in this except maybe on the large patch of snow on the left of the image. I am not sure what effect exposure compensation would have on a long exposure shot either. Just wondering. I have done some vertical panoramas but not many, and always good to be reminded that it can be done just like a horizonal image. |

I am fond of B&W and belong to a group of B&W photographers in my community. I unashamedly use those folks' knowledge hoping to learn something, so, I am no expert. I like the idea you are shooting for, and I think for the most part you have accomplished the task. The image is quite busy, what I really like is the s-curve leading line that the stream creates. It certainly leads you through the image from foreground to the lagoon area. I also like that both darkened sides of the image keep you centered on that leading line. I think I understand that you darkened the clouds to help set the mood but in doing that you brought me to an abrupt end of my journey down the stream. The story I see is the journey through the dark moody scene into the light at the end. Just my thoughts. You found some value in a scene that I have passed up many times because I found little value to it. I need to look a little closer to my surroundings. It's a cool image for sure. Thanks |
