Thanks Michael. I will stake a look at the 8x10 framing, it may work better> I have a tendency to use the 10x16 profile, probley left over from working with large birds. I will go back and look at the sharpening and clarity but I think I may have messed that up with the noise reduction program. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Thanks David. The belly of these birds is yellow but the softness may have been caused by some Noise Reduction. The guy are very smooth looking without a lot of detail in the feathers any way so I may have caused this issue. I agree about the branch being to light, Thanks that's and easy fix. The branch that the bird is setting on could be darkened to but that on does not bother me as much. Thanks

Larry, Bud just brought something up about the softness in the birds body. It could have been a noise reduction issue. I sometime do that when the ISO is a little high. Just a thought. |

Thanks Bud. It has been a good year for them here in South Carolina. Everyone seems to be finding a lot of them. When a flock of the guys attack a tree full of berries they are moving fast and trying to eat as many as they can and not let one of their buddies get the jump on the next berry. I knew at these settings I cloud get some images. I'm sure I could have used a higher F-stop and ISO but once I got started shooting there was no stopping. These guys are sometimes broad side to me, sometimes head on, sometimes looking away, sometimes twisted like a contortionist and some times upside-down. Always on the move so I try as best as I can to focus on the head and eye and hope for the best. May not be the professional way but I am not one of those guys. You may be correct about the noise reduction issue. I may have sent it to Topaz Noise AI and if you are not careful it will over do it on the reduction some times.

I wish I had a good answer about color of the birds breast. I never used a clone tool, if fact I never used any thing PS in processing. I do see what you are referring to and have no answer good answer. I did move the histogram to the right to lighten up the overall image and set the tone curve to strong contrast. Those moves caused the yellow of the underside of the Waxwing to be more pronounced maybe. I have found that the feather detail on this birds body is so fine that it very often looks like cloth. I compare these guys to Mourning Doves in that since, there is just not a lot of detail in the feathers. I took a couple hundred shots of these birds that day and they all look the same to me.
could be something I am not aware of?

Hi David. Sky replacement is becoming a hot topic in many clubs. My home club allows it as long as it is a sky image that you took. I am not that good that I can always tell if it is a replacement or not. Having said that, most times it just does not look right. I love the image but the Warm colors of the sky and cool blue color of the snow just don't match very well. |

Beautiful image Bud. I can't add much to what the other folks have said except at those temp's I would have still been in the sleeping bag. If you will excuse me now I am going to get under the covers. |

Very nice image and good work as usual. I love shooting the terns. I don't often get to see many Common Terns and don't have a good photo of one. On my bucket list. The DOF is extreme so again good work. As for crawling any great distance for this old guy is out of the question. You are to be commended. I will settle of long lenses.

Very interesting image. I love that you got down low on the guys. That emphasizes the grandness of these animals. I do like what Michael done with the picture. Added some contrast and a little more drama. I would love to have the opportunity to thke the same shot some time. |

Such a beautiful setting Todd. The image is just a little dark for my liking but of course that a personal opinion. Great colors in the sky but they get lost because of the bright sunspot and I think the dark clouds as well. If the overall image were a light lighter that may make a big difference. That may bring up some detail in the field and forest area behind the pools of waters. I would have a lot of trouble settling on just what I wanted to do in a scene like this, so many possibility's. |

Michael I too like Silhouettes and that is my dilemma with this image. As some of the others have talked about the addition of the detail in the image causes me to wonder. I believe I would do away with the detail and stick with the Silhouette. I believe it would be a much better image.
