Larry, I stopped by for a look see. Really good work on this one. Hanging quality for sure. I know it's not a mountain climb but, nonetheless it is uphill all the way, so I commend you on having the desire and fortitude of caring all that equipment to the cabin. I have never been there that there was not a lot of folks there with me. What did you do to run them off.

Wow! Thank you so much Barbara for you kind words. I find it very gratifying that you took the time to read my bio. I do love photography, I like the challenge of making a really nice image. I even like the technical side as well but what I really like is the folks that I meet along the way. I am the field trip leader for a large camera club here in the Hilton Area of South Carolina. It does not get any better than spending a week in the mountains of West Virginia, Tennessee or North Carolina with a bunch of people that love the same thing you do. You are correct, we may never meet, but don't be surprised if by chance we do, because I do lead several trips to Florida every year. If you ever see a bunch of old folks all carrying tripods and cameras, check it out. I may be one of them. |

I like this image a lot Todd. Photography is all about telling a story with our images and you have done a wonderful job. I can feel the cold and the struggle these big guys have in this kind of environment. I also like the choice of black and white. I think it adds a ton of drama to the story.I will agree with larry about the animal on the top right.I don't find it all that distracting, but it would have been nice to have all the all Bison in the image.I was wondering about not seeing the eyes as well. I did google bison photos in snow and there were eyes on all the portrait style image but very few eyes showing on heards if bison. That tells me that your were correct, it would have been difficult under the circumstances. As I said I like the image a lot. Good work.

Michael This is just the way he was sitting. He had just opened his eyes and raised up and looked in my direction. Maybe he was stretching a little.

Wonderful image Mark. The background is really nice. You have 3 seals which works really good and the interaction adds to the image. It's funny because after reading Larry's post I remember thinking, wow I loved the boldness of the crop. So many times folks think they have to include all of the subject to tell the story, so you cut right into the baby Seals. The relationship with mom is the story and I don't think your crop took away from that story. I know we should not cut anyones head off or the arm below the elbow or even the tip of a flower petal. I don't know about 1/2 of a flipper. I did not bother me. |

Wonderful image Jason. You just can't beat babies. You were smart to concentrate on the mother child relationship. Great move on your part. I will agree with Larry about being a little higher would have been nice but getting this shot of mom and her baby in this setting was your first priority. I understand the rules and why PSA has them but for hanging on the wall or in a Gallery I would make the changes he spoke of.

Michael we see these guys a lot here in the Low County of South Carolina. I have several images but none with the mouth open like this. I was wondering if he has his mouth open because you are close or for some other reason. Nice and sharp for sure inside the mouth. I am not a snake hater like a lot of folks but I sure give a wide berth to these guys. Considering all the distractions around the snake I think you have done a good job highlighting the subject which of course is the cotton mouth. |

I took out the twig and actually adjusted the crop just a tiny bit. |

Thanks Larry. I will do an edit on the image and take out the twig. I was thinking it made a nice frame for the Owl but now I am thinking it is not needed. I believe you are correct. I will post when edited.
