How can you not like this image. Very well done and you can't beat mom and baby photos. When it comes to wildlife I prefer photos with some of the environment left in the image. I think it helps tell the story. Portraits are great but most times I like to see where the critters live. I might have left a little more of the brush on the right in the photo to act as framing with the bush on the left. It almost looks like you were shooting from a little elevation above the animal and it may not have been possible to get a little lower but I think a little lower would have been nice. In the field with wild free roaming animals you take what you can get. Love the photo. |

Wyne you deserve the blue ribbon for braving the cold to grab this photo. This is the type of image that causes you to stop and ponder the environment of the scene. I like larry's cropping of the sky. I would have liked to have seen the image from a real low angle and also maybe Black and White may have enhanced the story of the coldness. It's still a wonderful image without all my wonderings.

Wonderful Image of the Wren. I do like the back ground and the color on the bird is spot on. I have this quirky thing about looking into the subject from right to left. It's just a thing I do but I may have flipped the image horizontal and had the wren facing to the left. It is how I read left ot right and seems more natural to me . I told you it was a quirky thing.

Agree Larry, but I was in Florida last weekend and a sunrise at the Merritt Island WMA with all the birds singing ain't bad either.

Wayne I live in Beaufort County not far from Dataw. Some of the best photography in SC is found on the barrier island of Beaufort County SC. |

Thanks Wayne. There is no other sound like a bull calling to his lady friend on a cool morning in the mountains. After reading the comments about the overhanging tree I am now a a place of indission, tree or no tree. Thanks for you comments Wayne and sorry about temps where you live. I will not complain about the temps going down to 30 degrees here in South Carolina any more today. Stay warm.

Thanks Cheryl for your comments. Sorry I didn't reply sooner but somehow I missed the notice from Larry. I love images with some fog but it can be challenging in the editing. I never thought about bring up the yellow flowers a little i will have to give that try. It may be good if it doesn't distract from the Elk. I think the color on the Elk was pretty close what I saw. I believe it to be a young bull because it was very light in color compared to the other much darker bulls I had seen in the area. Again thanks for the comments.

That's is exactly how I have it edited for a local competition after the post from you and Madhusudhan. I like it a lot better.

I agree with you and Larry about the tree being a distraction. I did some cropping but I was not totally satisfied with how close I appeared to the Elk. I also use the NIK software to add enough fog to cover the tree and like that a lot but under PSA rules of course that is not allowed. If the image were to go into a gallery the tree would be removed |

By the Way Larry the house on the far cliff is hardly seen in the B&W. |

A Wonderful image. Macro fascinates me and you do such a great job. How do you find those little critters. You subject is tacksharp but the overall image has a wonderful softness, caused by the background I suspect. Really Nice.

I have tried this a few times myself but I have never never achieved this level of skill. I do enjoy seeing images like this but they cause some confusion in my feeble old brain. It's me I'm sure but I never know what I should be looking at. I love the sky and its movement over the mountains but I like the bright yellow sunflowers as well. I can see you accomplished what you wanted. The original has a lot of possibilities, don't throw it away.

I do like the color image but I must say as a B&W fan I really like the darker image of the black and white. I think you have created enough tonal contrast with the work you done with the water to enhance the feelings you would expect from a cold winter day on the cliffs overlooking the scene. Walking through a gallery I would have to stop and take a longer look at that image. |

Very good Larry I can see why this is a favorite. Maine is on my bucket list ( I have a big Bucket list). I can understand your struggles with the fading light but I think you done a great job. When everything is gary and turning dark it is so hard to capture the color of the venue. The white of the water adds definition and separation to the rocks and cliffs. I too like the thin white line above the horizon. Gives a better sense of separation of the sky than if it would have only been the mountain rage. You certainly captured the mood of the stormy conditions. At 27 degrees and wind I can only imagine how cold it must have been. |
