Thanks so much for your comments. They are beautiful birds and can sometimes be hard to find even with all that colour.

Thanks Cheryl. The sunflowers at Donnelley WMA can be very large some times. On this day the Buntings did not want to get very close to me at all. Birds are like that sometimes. |

What a wonderful image. I have been working on my own, trying to perfect my skills at night photography. As you know living on the east coast of the USA does not lend itself to the kind of dark skies found in some of the western states. I have been able to find a couple of spots along the coast here in South Carolina that will work to some extent. I think you use of the foreground features was brilliant. It adds so much intersist and scale to the image. Wonderfully done. |

Very good Cheryl. Maintaining the detail in the feathers really makes this image a winner for me. I too like the Black and White processing. Darkening the already dark water works to show off this beautiful bird. Maybe a little more punch of the legs and beak but not much.

Nice image Wayne. It pays to pay attention to your surroundings. Good composition and the color of the Goldfish looks OK. I think you are correct,a filter would have helped some. |

Amazing image Max. I know very little about Macro. It would be interesting to know the size of the insect, I suspect it is very, very small. Stacking 18 images on such a small subject seems amazing to me. I know nothing about stacking either. I do know something about the size of a Zinnia stem. As I said amazing.

Beautiful image of a Butterfly that I am not familiar with. I too use some high ISO's when shooting in the garden. The high ISO does increase the amount of work for us but is necessary. I like the detailed information with your post processing, very good for us amateurs. For the conditions you were faced with, you did a great job.

Thanks Michael. They are beautiful birds and I love trying to photograph them. As much as I tell myself to make sure that I do as much cropping in the camera as I can I get so excited when the perfect photo crops up technicalities can go out the window sometimes.I like your idea of putting the Bunting a little to the left would have helped the image. Thanks for you help.

Thanks Larry. You are correct the first thing I do when attaching my camera and lens to the tripod is make sure my settings are good and the lens is "in a case like this day is fully extended" but during the day all those things are changed several times. OK I'm done making excuses, you are correct my lens should have been fully extended. I always try and focus on the eye but at this distance sometimes I am sure I may have missed a touch. |
