Thanks Wayne. I lived in West Virginia for most of my life in the mid Ohio Valley area so I understand about the harsh winter weather coming. I too like the second image better than the first for all the same reasons. I am bad about procrastination when it comes to timelines. I should have looked at all my images of this guy before making the decision of sending the first image. |

Thanks Cheryl for your nice comments. I need to be reminded about the over saturation of my images. I tended in my early years with LR to not know when enough was enough with the colour sliders. I did find an earlier image of the bull before he started feeding that may work better.Larry mentioned that as well so I have posted the new image. |

Thanks Madhusudhan. Actually I did look at the Black and White image and like it. My concern was that I lost the effect of the frosty morning which I thought added to the story of the morning. Thanks for you comments.

What a wonderful Image Larry. Love the colors and the texture of the rock walls contrasting with the smooth water. The lines in the rock formation lead you straight to the waterfalls. I am torn between the vertical and the horizontal image. I think they both have their own power caused by the contrasting lines. I personally lean toward the vertical image. I think it adds depth to the gorge and height to the waterfalls. Good job on the post processing.

This shot is on my bucket list. Nice work on the processing. I may have used the brush on the clouds just a bit to add more contrast to the light and dark areas but that's just something I would try. I like the colors, not over saturated. Over saturation is something I have to remind myself about all the time. I usually park the image for a day or two and then come back for another look just to be sure. Over all a good image Cheryl. By the way welcome to the group. |

It's a keeper. I don't know much on the technicals of macro but I like it when I see a good image. This has everything working for it. Sharpness, composition and color. Love the diagonal and also the background is spot on. Great work. |

Thanks Larry. I did see that little bit of grass on the nose and I may have another image without that grass. I will check. I am usually in burst when shooting wildlife.
I am a follower of Steve Perry and I have not had a chance to look at the videos.I seem to rely on High ISO's a lot so it most likely would help me.
The way in and out doesn't bother me much. I was raised in the hills of West Virginia, but my shooting partners, 2 from Boston were sota of wide eyed on the trip. |

I like the image. I will agree about the tree in the background but sometimes you have to go with what you got. I don't know the area but I do no that flirting with a cliff is not an option and putting the tree in front of hoodoos would not be good. I suppose you could carry a small chainsaw to solve the problem but that may create a bigger problem. I do carry a small set of clippers with me for that little twig or blade of grass that gets in my way.I have been married for 54 years and my wife and I have both decided that if we want to continue as a married couple she will not come with me when on a shooting adventure. She loves my work and has an abundance of it on the walls but no hiking around with me in the swamps and woods. As for the hase form the smoke, the dehaze feature in LR may have helped with that.

Max I don't see much of anything about this image that I don't like. These are just my opinions but I would not crop out the trees. You have given me an idea of what to expect if I ever visited this spot. It's in a forest setting and I would expect to see trees. The ferns are still easily identified as the main subject.Living In South Carolina I have seen fields of ferns and in the fall under a warm evening sun the can be very colorful. I like the photo a lot.

I will agree with Stephen and Larry, the flies and broom handle need to go. I think your choice of black and white was the correct choice for this photo. I find myself being drawn to B&W a lot more that in the past. I am glad I am not the only photographe that likes to go back and look at things from the past. You just never know what you have overlooked. Silhouettes can be very intriguing, good job. |

Donna I am another visitor from group 67. I too have been shooting some Elk activity this fall a little farther south in the state of North Carolina. Love this image. It's hard to beat the frosty mornings when it comes to shooting wildlife. Gives the image such realism and you can feel the coolness morning. I like that you shot at the f4.8. That narrow depth of field really makes the bull stand out. Great image Donna.
