I was visiting my brother in law when I took this and he called attention to the Radison. That was the building where he held his wedding reception 43 years ago. I was the photographer that day. Can you hear the song "Memories" play8ng in the background?

I really liked the coming of night feeling with the hint of sunset on the left and the beginnings of the blue hour on the right and I was well aware of the complimentary colors when I took this. Glad you liked the trees. I've never seen a major city skyline shot with lovely green trees for the foreground before. Like you said, a nice touch.

This is seven images combined to make the pano. Even with a 16 mm lens I could not get everything in. Even standing alond side the river there were many bridges than blocked the view of the buildings because the river curved. I believe the original image is sharp but this is greatly reduced to display here. The original stitched 7 image file is 73mm so there is a great reduction.

36 Oct 25 Comment I think you did well to capture the lovely sky and reflection on the surface of the water. There is certainly a great deal of impact coming from the use of the warm and inviting color orange. For my tastes the image is quite busy. All the tangles branches both in the sky and in the water plus whatever all those grey lines in the water actually are just is too much. I have found that finding a single compelling subject generally makes for a stronger more memorable image. Remember simplicity really goes a long way toward creating a strong image with few distractions. Oct 15th

This skyline was really different. Unlike some cities this is really not a city of the Big Shoulders as Carl Sandberg used to say. Somehow it seemed to look better capturing the full panorama. Besides this time I had a really great overlook point to photograph from. Like you I enjoyed the foreground the green trees provided.

36 Oct 25 Comment Since it is October, the season when chills and shivers run up and down the spine, this is the perfect seasonal shot. Shown in monochrome it fells like a trip to Transylvania. I like the way the central towers seem to emerge from the background and ends up well separated from the background.

However, since the central towers are the real story I would consider cropping from each edge coming inward to where the buildings begin. The dark bushes on each side do not contribute to the story and cropping them away would make the main towers a bit larger and more prominent.

36 Oct 25 Comment The silhouette brings a different vibe to the color image and makes the tree much more dominate. Since the tree is the subject and being shown inin silhouette a it becomes a study of shape and form. Thus I would crop some of the sky as doing so simply makes the tree even more dominate. Oct 13th
36 Oct 25 Comment Being very much a naturalist I really am not a fan of this kind of gimmick. That said either you have a really great eye (likely true) or you got really lucky. The symmetry in this is amazing and that make the fish eye look work. I see this as more of a creative, artistic image than a natural one. And I like the B/W the best. Oct 8th
36 Oct 25 Comment You are making it tough. I love blue hour images and this is another that is equally as good as last month. This has a much different vibe with the alpen glow showing on the peaks. For me that glow makes the difference. The addition of the orange glow creates complimentary colors and this softens the cold feeling of the previous image and makes this feel a bit warm and comfortable.

While I generally like foregrounds I don't feel the limited amount of boulders at the bottom really add much to the composition so my choice would be to just crop them off.

36 Oct 25 Comment Fist I love fall images, since we do not have fall in Florida, and I like images that limit the color palette. Limited color makes those colors that exist so much more intense and this process creates impact. Similar to Grace I'd crop some from the bottom as it just looks too busy and none of the areas really stand out. There is nothing that can be done about the following but I wish there was a bit more substance to the trees on the right. The area of trees on the right of the upper most falls is so thin that it feels like a mistake. Having a bit more yellow in that location would create a stronger frame for the falls. Oct 8th

Under a heavy seas the blow hole might make 8-9 feet, but rarely. We only have the puny Atlantic to supply the water--you have the WHOLE Pacific! We will do the best we can. Even our Macadamian Nut trees produce far few nuts than your trees do. By the way, we can't compete with your volcanoes either. :-(

67 Oct 25 Reply Thanks for the thought. On that second image I often wonder if it is the Good Coast, or if I've been transported to the Emerald Isle. Those greens... Oct 16th
67 Oct 25 Reply How well I remember those days Isaac. That was when we were young! I still keep going back if just to relive the memories. Oct 16th
67 Oct 25 Comment If you intent is to show confusion this works quite well. While looking over the image my eye just can't find a place to rest. To me the image seems a bit under exposed and this makes it look muddy and gloomy. Should you choose to brighten the image it will reveal greater detail and eliminate much of the gloom. I really do not know what is going on in the background and some of the more distant zebras appear to be purposefully blurred. That might be an artistic effect, but I do not feel it works here. dI feel you might have a stronger image with a tighter crop showing the expression of one of the zebra's faces, Oct 15th
67 Oct 25 Comment You managed a fine capture of this majestic eagle in flight. The bird is sharp and well exposed although the white head is a bit questionable. I'm guessing you opened the shadows on the underside of the wing and I really like to appearance of the spread tail feathers. My only suggestion has to do with the composition. This is such a majestic bird that it feels like a crime against nature itself to place it into such a tight frame. I like Butch's crop much better because it gives the bird more space into which it can fly freely. You have plenty of space on the original to make an adjustment. Oct 15th
67 Oct 25 Comment Seldom do you get to see a lightning strike with such a stunning sunset to go with it. Thanks for provided the secret to capturing this---just stay at home and drink Pepsi. Guess I'll have to give up my ice tea! While the lightning is certainly the star of the show I like the diagonal lines coming from the sky and the ridge line that guide the eye toward the sunset. The lines and the bright area o n the right make for a much more balanced image. I also think your processing that reveals the faint branches in the strike add a great deal of interest. As others have noted the halo on the horizon needs to be addressed. If you can eliminate that this would be other-worldly in its impact. Oct 15th
67 Oct 25 Comment With big cats the eyes are so powerful (sometimes even threatening) that they often make or break the shot. These eye are no exception. Plus in this image you have that raised mammoth sized paw that increases the concept of movement and thus makes the image stronger. I also like the profile so I get to see and enjoy the spot and I love the view of the muscular shoulders. My only thought Is that I would prefer to see the cat positioned a bit more to the right so he would have more space to move into. Unless the critter is coming straight at me I'm not a fan of centered weighted animal images. Oct 15th
67 Oct 25 Reply Thanks for your thoughts. This was never intended for any competition. I just wanted to capture the blowhole in action. I have some shots taken from a tripod with a slower shutter but those shots just do not resonate with me.
For the record, most of my shots are for my pleasure and I do not care how they fare in competition.

67 Oct 25 Reply Scott, you are new here so allow me to introduce myself. I'm just a big chicken (my picture is below)
I've wanted to photograph those blow holes with violent seas behind them but---my personality gets in the way. I've thought of going up there when a hurricane is coming in or at least the surf. First that rock is razor sharp, it slices my shoes to pieces In bad weather the rocks are really slippery and climbing on them is not for the faint at heart.

Short water plumes, like the one shown, can happen with very little water action (like what you see here).

Still, I would like the big waves and surf in the photo, so with your encouragement, I'll try to muster up some courage and when a storm comes in---I'll "brave" the rocks to get a shot. Posted: 10/05/2025 21:34:56

67 Oct 25 Comment Your image brings up an issue I constantly struggle with. The egret in the background seem to be from Florida. She has that old lady blue hair look. Seriously, white objects in shadows often tend to look blue. They aren't blue. So, here is the problem. Do you try to play with white balance and get the blue out or keep the blue and have the image look weird? I have a similar problem with water and waterfalls. If there is shade the water in the shade turns blue. Do you have a plan for this or just let it ride. Oct 4th
