Hi Peter, The final image looks like a pencil and watercolor piece. I like the asymmetric composition. My techy background would prefer a cleaner image with more sky detail. The 'birds' or 'whales' aren't quite distinct for me but they do help balance the composition. Digital layers are a valuable way to try a change and still be able to go back to revise it at any time. My mentor way back in the film 1970's, Eddie Bafford, was fond of saying, "It takes two people to manipulate a picture. One person who knows how to make changes and a partner with a baseball bat to stop the photographer from going too far." The critical decision we all have to make is "When have I gone too far?" It's an individual decision. Karl |

Hi Judy, The focus point is the plane of water/oil in the glass dish. The colored paper background is about a foot below that and is out of focus except in some of the oil 'lenses'. Certainly the bozo, rabbit, whale, etc. is in the mind of the beholder. I love it! Karl |

Hi Judith, Nicely done. Looks like you are getting the hang of processing images to maintain the essentials. Lightening the blossom helped a lot. Nice diagonal composition and magenta-green color contrast. Karl |

Lauren, In general it's nice for a flower to have a means of support, but that really isn't obvious here. One can just as easily imagine that the stem is completely obscured by the blossom which dominates the image frame. Alternatively, since the stem could be in a different focus plane, it could be slightly blurred and toned down. Karl |

Hi Lauren, Nicely done! The subtle colors are just right. The blurred background gives the flower a context without pulling attention away. Perhaps removing or blurring the reddish stem in upper left would complete the work. Otherwise, you have done an excellent job with blurring the background while maintaining a sharp, focus stacked, subject flower. Karl |
