Hi Susan, Welcome to the land of jingoism. I would expect to find this image in a photojournalism venue. It's a statement of our time: using 'patriotism' and the flag to gather in money (sponsorship). Photographically it's very nicely done. The reflection adds a bit of zest. Can you see the forest for the trees? Karl |

Damn Judith, Can't you hold a camera steady? Just kidding a good friend, of course. The two color areas of this image separate it from the ordinary pan blur. A variation on this could be a long exposure where the first half was a steady camera then moving out into a blur. Another is a steady image blended into a vertical blur. All possibilities are good. I like this one for its many areas of abstract lines where we imagine what is really there. The image indeed abstracts a common woodland (?) scene. Karl |

Hi Mary, You have done a beautiful job of making a yin-yang image with a modern subject. The composition balance between light and dark is seductive. The eye looks a bit too 'clean' for my sensibility. The white is quite pure. The pupil is near black but could use a little more tone or a catchlight. These are nits. I much prefer they way you have envisioned and brought a strong composition out of an ordinary portrait. Viva B&W! Karl |

Hi Susan, This is a great job a reproducing the look of an old print. The girl is outstanding. Her tongue is the one little element that adds spontaneity and takes it out of the ordinary. In modern composition thinking we would leave more space in front of the girl than behind, but when you look at old images, they look exactly like yours. Bravo for returning to the 19th century.
