Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
79 Jan 19 Comment Thank you for the comments, Susan. My thoughts are:
1. The left rotation would help to give the image flow up to the circles as a main subject. I'll try that in a future image. I still want to keep the ground level like a stage would be.
2. The image is vertically asymmetric to emphasize height.
3. I would like to have more pavement reflection. The rad is wet from rain in this image. I want to try some in snow also.
4. I toned down the bright center of the circles. I'll go back to the original as you suggest to make it a clearer focal point.
Yes, I am accumulating dozens of these images that you will see over time, perhaps as a book.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Anurada, I get a real feeling of release from this image. The left side is fairly sharp and controlled. Then the eye comes to the black sharply defined edge. The water is released in a fast blur of motion down the spillway to the textured waterway below. It's like a pent up emotion venting. It's a picture that is simple enough to view but that can be packed with imagined inferences of meaning. This is truly ambiguous fine art.
A tech comment would be to tone down the bright area in the upper right corner.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Susan, Whoa, violence in The Netherlands? What's happening in the world?
The painting 'filter' is effective in making this an eye-catching image, a bit warped even. The colors and flow are well rendered.
It appears that the original image was very nice to start. Many triangles and leading lines to make an effective composition. Detail items (boats, bikes, blue windows, flowers) to allow browsing the image. I think it would stand on its own.
When I judge, my scores tend not to reward results from easy to use modifying software compared to carefully done Photoshop work. Not all judges feel that way, so this image may do well in altered reality.

In the end my feeling is mixed. It's a beautiful artistic image that comes in large part from the composition and color of the original. But overwhelming it with a boxed filter doesn't leave me too enthusiastic. I admit to having an old school vein.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Valerie, The image has great movement. It looks like wind. The flowing lines are interrupted in my view by the white box elements to the right of center. Cropping or cloning those out would help give the idea of a big, flat windswept landscape. The brown sky seems to work very well here and gives a painterly feel. The darkening gradients at top and bottom magnify the horizontal feeling of wind. Keep doing these beautiful 'accidents'.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Mary, I love the concept and the beautifully artistic model. When I look at the image, my eye first goes to the body decoration, absolutely gorgeous. The zoom is nicely done although I tend to do longer zooms for better control. I can't tell what the hair is doing. It appears to me to be well manicured which seems out of place with the tattoo and concept of falling/danger. It took awhile to find the hands. A more elaborate rendering might start with a zoom photo of leaves and another of the model jumping or trampolining with hair askew. Then carefully place the model image over the leaf zoom, interweave parts of her with the zoom and add a few individual falling leaves over everything. I would like to see more of the model (arms, even legs) and have her long hair fling and better defined. Have you seen the opening sequence of the TV series "Mad Men" from a few years ago where the lead character falls through space? That's how I envision a falling person.
A little asymmetry and diagonal flow of the model can increase excitement. Try to control very bright areas. The highlights on the left attract attention away from the model. A zoom for this purpose should be noticeably darker at all edges to lead the viewer directly to the subject.
I love your models and your work with them. I can't wait to see more.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Judith, In-camera HDR is a nifty toy for creating images that can be positive and negative simultaneously. With practice you can get approximate ideas of how subjects will render, but the fun is in seeing what actually happens. This image is a particularly nice. By holding the camera steady, everything but the walker is singularly sharp. The composition is simple so the only ambiguity is the walker. The walker is framed by the shrubs in diagonal corners. HDR has produced adequate detail in both highlights and shadows. The upper right object isn't necessary. I'm OK with the slight diagonal arrangement of the picture because it adds a sense of movement. Nicely done. I love this kind of playing and hope that you will show us more.

79 Jan 19 Comment Hi Susan, The waterfall itself is a very nice image without additions. The toned monochrome is beautiful. The idea of a foreground subject is also good. But in this instance a few questions are raised. Your lovely model, Kat, and her horse look pasted into the picture. That happened because of a difference in lighting, contrast, and lack of shadows which would help 'glue' the girl/horse into the landscape. After looking at the scene awhile, my knees started to hurt in sympathy to the subjects kneeling in the river rocks. Having Kat and horse standing or riding with a shadow into the scene might 'feel' better. And who says they couldn't gallop through the air in an altered reality possibility?
I love this kind of thinking and the fact that you asked us to tell you how we see the image. We all learn and refine our work this way. I'm a bit jealous of the waterfall since I haven't been to Iceland.

79 Jan 19 Comment Susan, I wanted to include a bit of shadowy background to give the image more context. I don't think that part succeeded. I did some images with a flash pop at the beginning to add myself. This was an attempt to at least add scale and reference. Here's one of the selfies.
